This is the smallest fire truck we’ve ever seen, but then again, we’re not from Canada.
You need a towel.
According to Douglas Adams’ Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy, a towel is “about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.” You can:
- Wrap it around you for warmth as you bound across the cold moons of Jaglan Beta
- Lie on it on the brilliant marble-sanded beaches of Santraginus V, inhaling the heady sea vapours
- Sleep under it beneath the stars which shine so redly on the desert world of Kakrafoon
- Use it to sail a miniraft down the slow heavy River Moth
- Wet it for use in hand-to-hand-combat
- Wrap it round your head to ward off noxious fumes or avoid the gaze of the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal (such a mind-bogglingly stupid animal, it assumes that if you can’t see it, it can’t see you)
- Wave your towel in emergencies as a distress signal
- Dry yourself off with it if it still seems to be clean enough
Good thing we have you covered. Donate $100 online to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund and we’ll send you a commemorative LAFD beach towel. Your donation will go to help injured firefighters and their families.
And to celebrate Douglas Adams’ life, you can use your LAFD towel on Towel Day, May 25.
Like taking a dip on a hot day? You’ll need to towel off when you’re done. And if you contribute $100 or more during our May Online Donation Drive, we’ll send you a commemorative LAFD beach towel to help you do just that.
All money raised goes to the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firemen’s Fund, which provides assistance to injured firefighters and their families.
Donate now. And spread the word. Thanks.
A wildfire that forced authorities to temporarily close a section of U.S. Highway 34 east of Yuma County, Colo. This wildfire caused at least a half-million dollars’ worth of damage on Colorado’s plains was sparked by a power line snapped by strong winds. Tony Rayl/Yuma Pioneer via Associated Press
Fire Department - App
The new app empowers everyday citizens to provide life-saving assistance to victims of Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA). Application users who have indicated they are trained in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can now be notified if someone nearby is having a cardiac emergency and may require CPR. If the cardiac emergency is in a public place, the application, using sophisticated GPS technology, will alert citizens in the vicinity of the need for CPR. The application also directs these citizen rescuers to the exact location of the closest public access Automated External Defibrillator (AED).If you are CPR trained, this is an app you need to have on your iPhone! Maybe you can be someone’s hero.
Awesome idea!
